An exciting project to bring new life to the River Leven has recently secured new funding.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund has provided a £2.98 million grant to support the project, aimed at highlighting local heritage and providing new training opportunities.
The funding was unveiled as part of the National Apprenticeship Week 2025, the 18th annual event to celebrate and promote the opportunities apprenticeships can provide.
Fife Council's Levenmonth Area Committee have also provided £850,000 as a grant, further boosting the project's funding.
River Park project in Leven receives funding
The significant investment thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Levenmouth Reconnected Programme's Large Grant Scheme will enable the creation of River Park, a 4km park to support the River Leven and foster the local community.
Much planning and preparation has taken place to enable the support of the local ecosystem, and will help offset the negative impact of increasing heavy rainfall.
Areas of the park will become wetter, so new boardwalks and footbridges will be built across newly formed ponds, creating a network of accessible walkways that will be used to create a heritage trail.
Activities will be held in the park, inspired by the local community's interests and suggestions.
These will include health-focused heritage walks, educational sessions for all ages including topics such as biodiversity and wildlife, yoga and meditation sessions, and more.
There's a lot that needs to be done as part of the project, and we are excited to see how the River Park project will develop in the coming years thanks to this influx in funding.
