Parliament

Labour's proposed reforms on the private rental sector received a lot of press attention in recent weeks. We want to reassure you that nothing is changing today or even in the next few months.

The proposals need to go through parliament, and there will no doubt be some cross party challenges meaning the contents could change.

We do know that the government is committed to reform in the lettings sector, and we are here to help you navigate through the changes.

We have experience with these kinds of reforms

As a national network of letting agents, we have experience of reforms to legislation like this.

Changes similar to these came into effect in Scotland in 2016 with the Private Housing (Tenancies) (Scotland) Act. In Scotland this resulted in tenants staying longer in their rental properties, meaning Landlords have benefited from more consistent income.

In fact, Zoopla’s September 2024 Rental Market Report shows that rents in Scotland have risen more than average rents across the UK.

The Private Rental Sector remains an important part of housing provision in the UK

Housing stock remains an issue in many locations across the UK. The demand for rental property is significantly higher than the available supply, and this is likely to continue.

The process and the grounds for repossessing a property are changing, and we will be able to help you understand the changes and what they mean for you.

We employ experts and are active members of industry bodies such as Propertymark. Our access to expertise and information will be shared with you via regular updates as any developments happen.
