Why Move to Denton?
The Director of Your Move Mary Ashton in Denton, Mary Ashton, says “Denton is a great place to live and work. I know of many families with 3 generations happily living in the area, and more recently many residents have moved in from other areas of Greater Manchester attracted by its more affordable housing options and range of Schools. It boasts excellent transport links and amenities. 15 minutes to the East and you are in Manchester City Centre whilst 15 minutes to the West you are in the Peak District National Park. To the south, you can get to Manchester Airport or the Trafford Centre easily. Where else offers this level of flexibility? Having worked here for over 20 years I would not hesitate to recommend it "
History and Famous Residents
Denton has a history going back to the Middle Ages and from the Victorian era had been known as an industrial town on the outskirts of Manchester. It had a strong coal mining tradition, many large factories but was most famous for its Hatting industry, at one stage the majority of hats in the UK came from Denton and it was the home of the inventors of the Bowler Hat.
Denton can claim 2 Football World Cup Winners - both Jimmy Arnfield and Sir Geoff Hurst were born here. We are also proud of our musical heritage with Mick Hucknall from Simply Red fame and Alan “Reni” Wren of The Stone Roses both growing up in Denton. The town is also incredibly proud of Private Albert Hill who won the Victoria Cross during WW1.

From a transport perspective Denton also has an unusual claim to fame. Denton Train Station was the least used in Britain with only 34 people using its one train a week all year!
Shopping and Eating Out
More recently Denton has been referred to Destination Denton. Its creating a reputation as a great place to eat and shop. We enjoy local independent restaurants including Turkish, Indian, Italian, Chinese and British Cusine, have several pubs and bars that serve food, multiple take out options and some large national restaurant chains meaning if you are hungry there is a food option for even the most picky of eaters.
On the shopping front Denton boasts Crown Point North a large Shopping Centre with a range of units including Flannels, Foot Asylum, JD Sports, Next and Boots. Crown Point also benefits from a Starbucks and Costa Coffee and other food and drink options.
