Why move to Duston?

The village of Duston has still been able to retain its uniqueness despite being absorbed by the main Northampton town boundary. The major employer in the area was British Timken, which at its height employed over 4,000 people. The factory has since been closed and the site redeveloped to provide much needed housing. Junctions 15a and 16 of the M1 are easily accessible, as is the A43, which provides good access to south Northamptonshire towards the Oxfordshire border. Northampton train station is also situated just west of the town centre meaning that you can be in London or Birmingham in an hour. Althorp House, the family home and resting place of Diana, Princess of Wales, is situated five miles to the north west of Duston Village.

History and Sport

Situated on the western fringe of Northampton, Duston offers easy access to the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside. Harlestone Firs is a popular woodland area covering 300 acres; it is a favourite with walkers, dog walkers, joggers, and particularly mountain bikers.

Also on the west side of town is Upton Country Park, which has playing fields for five football pitches and a cricket square. It stretches to the village of Kislingbury in the west and includes new footways, cycle paths, new leisure and hardstanding areas, gates, bridges, and boardwalks. Duston is home to the "Cobblers", Northampton’s football team. Heading into the town centre from Duston, you will come across Franklins Gardens, the home of the Saints rugby team, who play in the Premiership.

Properties

The blend and style of property is quite diverse, ranging from stone cottages and Victorian terrace houses to state-of-the art new build "eco" homes. The majority of housing stock is made up of post-World War II modern family homes, which range from very traditional styles to striking new designs. The area also has a large number of established bungalows, which are always in high demand. The newer developments have added to the mix of property, with builders catering for first time buyers right up to high end executive housing. Most of the nearby villages have attractive high streets with period properties, many of which are built in Northamptonshire stone.

Restaurants and shopping

Most of Duston’s developments and surrounding areas have local convenience stores for day-to-day essentials. Sixfields Retail Park nearby caters for more substantial needs via a Sainsbury’s superstore and a number of other high profile branded outlets, including Boots, Next, Halfords, Matalan, and Marks & Spencer. In addition, there are a number of food outlets, including Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays, Taco Bell, KFC, and MacDonalds.
